In Memory of Lloyd Williams
January 16, 1945 – August 6, 2025
One of Lloyd Williams’ most enduring lessons was simple yet powerful: “Look to the left of you, look to the right of you — and get to know the person next to you.” For Lloyd, community was not just a concept, it was an action — a daily practice of connecting, sharing, and lifting one another up. He often reminded us that the words common and community are rooted together — a reminder that what we share is far more powerful than what divides us. Through his work as Harlem Arts Alliance Vice Chairman, his mentorship of young leaders, and his tireless advocacy for Harlem’s businesses and cultural institutions, Lloyd showed that being communal means investing in people, celebrating our shared humanity, and working together toward a greater good.
